Keeping Mojave Beautiful: The Value of Highway Cleanup and Community Pride
Travelers heading north on Highway 14 toward Mojave might notice a small but meaningful sign just before entering town: “Adopt a Highway – Mojave Lodge #2059.” While it may pass by in a flash, this sign stands as a proud symbol of service, stewardship, and community commitment.
The Adopt a Highway program allows organizations to take responsibility for keeping a designated stretch of highway clean and litter-free. For Mojave Lodge #2059, it’s more than a public service—it’s a reflection of who we are. It represents our dedication to giving back, our respect for the land we call home, and our desire to keep Mojave looking its best for residents and visitors alike.
Much of the credit for the maintenance of our segment of Highway 14 goes to two dedicated individuals: Lecturing Knight Travis Behrens and Clubroom Manager Bob Newman. These two brothers of the Lodge have consistently shown up to clear litter, often braving the heat, cold, and everything in between—except on the windiest of Mojave days, when even the trash tries to fly south!
Their commitment is not only commendable—it’s contagious. Their example serves as a reminder that even small acts of service can have a big impact. Each piece of trash picked up, each bag filled, contributes to a cleaner environment, a safer road, and a more welcoming Mojave for all who pass through. It also shows that civic pride isn’t just talked about—it’s lived.
To the casual observer, the Adopt a Highway sign might simply mark a name and an organization. But for us, it’s a badge of honor and a message to the world: Mojave Lodge #2059 cares. We care about our town, our travelers, and the legacy we’re building.
We are deeply grateful to Travis and Bob—not just for their physical efforts, but for their spirit. They are the kind of people who make Mojave Lodge #2059 not just a place, but a family. Their work is an inspiring example of what can happen when community, commitment, and kindness come together.
So next time you’re heading into town and spot that familiar sign, take a moment to appreciate what it represents. It’s not just a patch of clean highway—it’s the heart of a community that loves where it lives.
Thank you, Travis and Bob, for keeping our corner of the world a little brighter.
